5 Ways to Upgrade Your Lifestyle!

We as African American women balance very busy lives. Among us are stay at home moms, entrepreneurs and professionals.  Yes,we all make choices that determine our unique lifestyle. However, we aren't always conscious of the choices that we make when we are always on the go.

Here are 5 ways to Upgrade your Lifestyle

1. Give yourself 5 minutes to unwind. Turn off your cell, get into a comfortable position and don't think about anything! Give your mind permission to take a break, breathe deeply, and remember that you are a precious, important part of your life. Peace of mind is priceless, cultivate it daily.

2. Find ways to share your gifts with the world. Each one of us has something to give. Volunteer for a charitable cause, teach someone a new skill or inspire children with your life story. Listen to how you can find practical ways to give back.

3. Put your Spirit First. Sometimes we go so fast giving ourselves away to everything and everybody else that we forget about our spiritual practices and needs. Your spirit is important so pay attention to the signs your spirit gives you. Neglect comes in forms or pain, and chaos so Pay Attention Inside Now.

4. Take a little time to Read the Ingredients on Your Hair, Skin and Body Products. Pay particular attention to the first 4 to 5 ingredients. The formula shows the highest percentage ingredient first the the least amount last. Sulfates, petroleum, chemicals and synthetics are not worthy of your beauty rituals.

5. Express your Creativity. Whether you like to paint or write a little poem. Do it! There is freedom in the art of expression.  Create something beautiful and reflect on it often.

Styling your way through the Transition

It seems since you've decided to transitioned your hair styles have become very basic. You have become restricted to the fro and the twist out, perhaps in different variations. Well, guess what, you can give that kinky hair of yours the same love, possibly MORE, than what you'd show it if it was relaxed. Not for one minute should you feel restricted to the same "boring old style". There's something for everyone! Short, long or in between.

Protective styling is definitely an option and a vital part of caring for your natural hair. It can be done on any length and/or curl pattern that can sustain. The styles are endless and not only limited to box braids. Protective styling should be done on at least six inches of strong, healthy hair.

Short Hair Beauties, those that don't require protective styling just yet, if you did the big chop, you are already a step ahead! One, you did what many wouldn't and two that’s fierce in its on right. Play up the big chop by accessorizing. Visiting a museum or any other artsy, eclectic event? Channel it with blocky jewelry, big bangles, vibrant colors! The big chop can also be approached in a more relaxed and/or elegant manner. If you are a natural beauty that has a knack for makeup, on your way to a more formal event, play your up facial feature’s strong points to accentuate your hair. If you have experienced some growth, try coiled styles, add a flower.

Medium and longer length ladies there’s a little more of an array of  styles, simply because you have length, however, that means that you guys serve as length and style inspirations for those who desire it!

Out on the town with the girls, try a retro pinup, its sure to turn heads!

Enjoying dinner later on in the evening with the a special friend, no fret, steal the night with a stunning pompadour, it’ll definitely do the trick. The Best part, it only takes 4 minutes! Another one that's sure to be a hit, is the pincurls, it gives you that nicely defined curl set without the heat and rods.

This is only a few of the many, many styles out there, their variations and your creativity. Please, share your natural styles with us, we’re always looking for inspiration.

Also, remember ladies, regardless of hair length all natural hair styles look their best and are at their healthiest when the hair is healthy. Natural Hair deserves a healthy pant-based hair ritual to reach its maximum potential. Also, please keep the tresses well moisturized, MEGA MOISTURE=NO BREAKAGE!!!

7 Ways to Reclaim Your Happiness, Peace and Joy

It seems like the stresses of life can often compound upon themselves until you find yourself to be perpetually unhappy. It becomes difficult to think or enjoy yourself as your mind becomes more and more cluttered. Luckily, this isn’t a permanent condition, and a few lifestyle changes can get you back to being the bright, happy person you always were beneath the stress and negativity. These seven steps will help you clear your space and become a more balanced, radiant woman.

1.  Clean your physical space.

They often say that a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind. While many thrive in a chaotic environment, cleaning up the places where you live and work can do a lot to relieve stress. Even just looking at a messy office or home can send your stress levels through the roof, but there is something very zen about a clean space.

2. Clear unnecessary commitments from your schedule.

These days, it seems like we are perpetually busy and never have enough time for ourselves. Take a look at your schedule and figure out what commitments you have that are unnecessary or not beneficial. This gives you more time for the things that are really important to you.

3.  Remove negative influences from your life.

Surrounding yourself with negative people who constantly whine and complain can put you in a negative mindset that persists long after you have left their company. Surrounding yourself with positive people can help you have a much more positive attitude.

4.  Get connected spiritually.

Going to a place of worship is a great way to let go of all of the stresses of the week. Even on days when services are not held, spending time in prayer will help you let go of the negativity that is cluttering your mind.

5.  Take the time to care for and pamper yourself.

Once you have cleared some of your schedule, make time to take proper care of yourself. A healthy beauty regimen will help you feel more confident in your own skin, while massages and aromatherapy will help you remove negativity and balance yourself emotionally.

6.  Affirm yourself.

Far too often, it seems like we are the cause of our own stress. We often remind ourselves of our mistakes and failures, while spending absolutely no time celebrating our successes and appreciating all of the wonderful things that we have to offer others. Make a conscious effort to appreciate yourself and remember how amazing you truly are.

7.  Indulge your creative side.

Even when you take all of these steps to avoid and reduce stress, there will still be situations that arise that will make you want to tear your own hair out. When this happens, your creativity can prove a valuable outlet for all of that stress. Whether you prefer to write poetry or paint beautiful watercolors, you will find that getting your emotions out in a tangible way helps you release negative influences and connect with yourself.
